# Privacy and data

> Where your data lives, who sees what, and how to delete it.

## Where your data lives

Your organization picks a region when it starts, and your chats, files and answers stay in that region. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

## Who sees what

| What | Who sees it |
| - | - |
| Your chat | Only you, until you share it |
| A private chat | Only you. Temperate learns nothing from it |
| A shared chat | Everyone in the space with permission to read shared chats |
| A file Temperate made | Only you, until you share it |
| Knowledge | Depends on its level: the organization, the space, or only you |
| Memory | The people of the space |
| A guest's task chat | The guests on that task, and the space |
| A guest's own chat | Only that guest |
| Your photo | Anyone with its link, without signing in |

Guests see one space only: the tasks you give them and the files you share.

## What the memory never keeps

Temperate never keeps national ID, passport or licence numbers, card numbers, the IBAN of a private person, passwords and keys, or personal tax numbers. It leaves sensitive personal data out of documents. A chat in a space can teach such facts, and people in the space can then see them, so use a [private chat](https://docs.temperate.works/chat/private-and-shared.md) for those.

## When Temperate staff can read a chat

Only when you rate an answer down, so they can find out what went wrong. The dialog tells you before you send it.

## Delete chats automatically

Your organization can delete quiet chats after a set time. See [Organization settings](https://docs.temperate.works/admin/organization.md#delete-chats-after).

## Delete your account

Open **Settings**, **Profile**, and select **Delete account**. Until the day it's deleted, you can sign in and select **Keep my account**. An owner with other people in the organization must remove them first.

* After 7 days, your chats, your own agents, projects and knowledge, your own record in the memory and your photo are deleted.
* What you shared with a space stays, without your name.
* What colleagues said about you can stay in the memory, until someone who manages knowledge selects **Forget everything about** that person.
* An answer that already mentioned a fact about you stays in that person's chat until the chat is deleted.

## The audit trail

Your organization can see who did what. See [Audit trail](https://docs.temperate.works/admin/audit-trail.md).
